Homo floresiensis, presumed to be a descendant of Homo erectus, lived on Flores Island in Indonesia alongside a golden retriever-sized rat [see picture], giant tortoises and huge lizards – including Komodo dragons – and a pony-sized dwarf elephant called Stegodon
that the little hominids may have hunted.
