Was Pete Ladd the stunt double for Weird Al in UHF? Did Lee Tunnell start major league baseball's first D&D club? This awesome site has all the dirt on your favorite worthless baseball cards from the 80s. A must-read for anyone who collected and threw these in a box marked "commons". ben

The Cardinals and St. Louis radio station KMOX are discontinuing their relationship after 52 years. The news was from a few months ago, but this piece does a great job explaining why that relationship was so important and why their parting is a big deal. William

UPN's "Everybody Hates Chris" is well worth your viewing. I've seen the pilot, and it's easily the best new show on TV this fall. (And with that in mind, watch another great returning show, "Arrested Development," premiere tonight.) William

  1. Anonymous Anonymous: You can watch the pilot here. It's not even illegal.

Google Video will change the way we waste our time.

A long, long, long profile of Bono. Is he important or self-important? Probably both. He's also pretty short. William

  1. Anonymous Anonymous: While talking about their musical abilities: "Bono's voice seems to rise up out of a great pool of naked yearning." Please. Bono can suck on my naked yearning. 9/19/2005

Once upon a time, Bob Dylan mapped out a rural USA itinerary for Bono, and this NYT travel article takes us on that route. William

the Onion is there to help. Few Onion issues have been more brilliant than those after the last two elections and in particular after Sept. 11. Now comes these headlines:
God Outdoes Terrorists Yet Again
Louisiana National Guard Offers Help By Phone From Iraq
Government Relief Workers Mosey In To Help
Refugees Moved From Sewage-Contaminated Superdome To Hellhole Of Houston
and, the icing on the cake:
White Foragers Report Threat Of Black Looters
Go read it now, you'll be cheered up in no time... ben

He marries and divorces Madonna. He makes award-winning movies. He travels to Iran and writes a series of articles for the San Francisco Chronicle. And he helps out Hurricane Katrina survivors. Is there anything this man can't do? William

A 15-year-old basketball phenom has orally agreed to attend DePaul University on a scholarship. Starting in 2009. The Chicago Tribune has the details, including this gem:
Under NCAA rules, [Depaul Coach Jerry] Wainwright can't comment about the commitment until Cully signs his letter-of-intent, which can't take place until November 2008.
There are no NCAA rules (yet!) about offering scholarships, nor are there rules about accepting them, at any age, but there are rules on when the coach can comment on it.

Cully Payne is a 5'11" point guard, so size isn't an issue, and he's dominated his middle-school peers at national competitions, but still, the kid hasn't even played a minute of high school basketball!

Next, Coach K rounds up oral agreements from sixth-graders... ben
